MPEC Statement on SCOTUS Decision in Janus v. AFSCME

Statement from Maryland Professionals Employees Council President Jerry Smith on the SCOTUS Decision in Janus v. AFSCME Council 31

In life there will be highs and lows. The Supreme Court's decision to side with millionaires and billionaires and silence the voice of public sector workers is one of those lows. Despite that, the Maryland Professional Employees Council will remain dedicated to improving quality of life for our members and the citizens of Maryland we serve. We are committed to doing well by doing good. We remain faithful to our core values and responsibilities to our members. We understand that our members know the battle and we ask them to come and climb the mountain with us. We fight, we win—for our members, our communities, and our state. That will be true despite today's verdict, because as President Franklin Roosevelt once said, “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."
